The easiest real hike from the Sonoma Plaza: walk four blocks north to the Mountain Cemetery entrance on First Street West and climb a gentle grade through oaks and wildflowers to a meadow with views over the valley and the Bay. About 2.4 miles round trip. Dogs, bikes and horses are not permitted. The phone number is Sonoma City Hall.

A beautiful walk through the cemetery and trail. The trail is well groomed. The climb is steep at times but the view was worth the climb.

The Sonoma Overlook Trail does not allow dogs, which may be one of the reasons why you can often see wildlife. Deer are very common, squirrels, a wide variety of birds, rabbits, and if you're really lucky foxes or even a bobcat. The hike itself is fairly moderate, with only 400 feet of elevation gain, and work done recently to smooth the trail makes is more runner-friendly than some other Sonoma Valley trails.

Feels like you are miles away. Trail winds up and down hills (not too steep) sneakers ok. But note, most of the path is rock studded earth. Very pleasant, nice view from top ...on a clear day you can see SF.
